Why should I attend?
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
• Explain how the stories we believe about ourselves affect our performance
• Experience the three phases in helping someone to change an unhelpful story
• State what actions you will take to apply the learning in practice
• Use the model to help coachees to explore and change unhelpful stories

How will it run?
After a brief introduction and overview, we will watch and discuss a video case study of an (abbreviated) coaching process using the Shifting Stories model; we will then work in pairs to try the model out in practice. That will be followed by a review of learning, and some action planning, to apply the learning in our practice.

Who will present?
Andrew Scott is the author of Shifting Stories – how changing their stories can transform people. A freelance facilitator and coach for the last 35 years, Andrew has worked with blue chip organisations ranging from Prudential to Procter & Gamble, as well as several Universities and not-for-profit organisations.
Andrew was prompted to write his book by an academic client, who was intrigued and impressed by the approach he has developed, and wanted to understand how it was similar to, and also different from, Narrative Coaching.
A qualified and experienced coach and supervisor of coaches, Andrew has used the approach outlined in the book on many occasions: largely successfully, but also with some disappointing results, which has further informed his understanding – indeed one chapter in the book is called ‘When It Doesn’t Work.’
Andrew’s facilitation is characterised by alternating a clear and stimulating presentation style, with a near-invisible ‘holding of the space’ when participants are co-creating their own learning.
