The NHS London Regional Workforce Teams of Leadership, EDI and HR were proud to deliver an exciting event which was dedicated to enabling women of colour to thrive in their careers. The conference was inspired by the findings of the Fawcett Society and Runnymede Trust’s Broken Ladders report which highlights the inequalities and the disproportionate discrimination suffered by women of colour across different industries.
Our mission was to create a space where people can connect, learn, grow and increase their understanding about the barriers faced for women of colour. We believe that by sharing our experiences, insights, and knowledge, we can support each other in achieving our goals and making a positive impact in enabling change.
This event was open to all NHS people, of colour, allies, people professionals and health and care leaders who want to engage, support and enable others to collectively break down barriers and create better opportunities for women of colour.
Colleagues had the opportunity to hear from dynamic speakers who shared their expertise on a range of topics including leadership, career development, and self-care. Delegates were able to participate in interactive workshops led by industry experts, a panel discussion, and network with other attendees. Furthermore, delegates had the to gain valuable insights and provocations from industry experts outside of the NHS.
Objectives of the Conference:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the barriers faced by women of colour from the research
- Empower Women of Colour to thrive in the workplace
- Hear the lived experiences and successes from senior women of colour
- Build a supportive network
- Develop personal leadership skills to support your career
Our aim was to bring together colleagues from across the NHS and to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to take your career to the next level. Whether you’re a seasoned executive or just starting out on your career journey, Women Leaders has something for everyone.
