All our trainers are working coaches and we teach you the least you need to know to be able to coach well.  \nIn 2020\, the material drawn on to support the delivery of this programme was published by McGraw Hill as ‘Simplifying Coaching’ and is recognised around the world as a core text for coaching at work and coaching professionals.  \nWhat previous participants say  \n“It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing thing. It’s an incremental approach and [you] can start to introduce the coaching approach into your conversations in lots of different ways. And it doesn’t have to be that that whole conversation is a coaching one\, but that you are using elements of what we are learning. It’s part of our toolkit now and making us think differently about how we might have some of our conversations.”   \n“This course seemed unique in its focus on simplicity and practice\, with regular feedback – instead of coming out of it thinking with practice this will be really useful\, but then forgetting to practice to embed it. I am already using it and it is becoming second nature to me.”  \n“Definitely do less. To achieve more. Because it doesn’t make you a worse manager. It actually makes you a better manager”  \nListen to how physio Ben Jeeves is using a coaching style in his work with patients.  \nJoining the Building a Coaching Culture programme – What you need to know  \n\nCoaching is simply a conversation where someone feels heard and gets new insights into their own stuff. This makes a coaching style useful in many different kinds of conversations. \nWe are developing and refining skills. This is experiential learning. There is no back row. \nEveryone will give and receive coaching up to 8 times in small groups – so you will need to come ready to learn\, think your own things through and contribute to the learning of others. \nYou will need to be fully present and able to fully focus in every session – cameras on \n\n\nThis way of working can feel very weird. 95% of people get it by the end of the course and for some it is a steeper learning curve and a much more rewarding journey than they were anticipating. \nThere is no written work or reading. You will need to watch a video between each live session. This is a core part of the learning. You can access the learning portal through your smartphone\, tablet\, work or home computer – or a combination. \nIf 3D wonder by the end of the programme if this way of working is for you\, we will talk to you about that. \nThere is no expectation from 3D that you will become a coach. Many people don’t. They just have better conversations as part of a more collaborative culture in the organisation. If you want to become a coach\, this is the first step! \nAttendance certificates will only be issued for delegates who have completed the whole course and watched all the videos. \n\n\nTo support ongoing development of Leadership Academy offers\, we ask that as part of your participation in this programme\, you engage with our course evaluation. This involves completing two short surveys\, one before and one after the programme. Your feedback is invaluable\, it provides us with insights into your experiences of our programmes and informs us of any future needs. All responses to our surveys will be anonymous and totally confidential. Any reports will only include consolidated results with no reports at an individual level.  \n\nHow to book your place   \nYour booking is not confirmed until you have received a confirmation email. SUMMARY:System Convening – Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Delivered in collaboration with the NHS South West Leadership Academy and Wenger-Trayner Unip Ltd\, via zoom.\nOverview\nThis masterclass is for people who are involved in complex initiatives and are looking for tools and perspectives for making a difference across multiple boundaries or silos of practice\, institutions and geography. The goal is to help you think through a strategy for dealing with your project in its broader context of often-competing initiatives\, perspectives\, expectations\, and politics. \n“I valued the advise on how to approach bringing people together who historically have worked in silo organisations” \n“I valued the helpful tools and construct to support delivery of complex transformation across very diverse organisation boundaries” \nParticipant feedback from the 2021-2022 System Convening Masterclass \nBackground \nMany people nowadays find themselves leading initiatives that seem more complex than they used to be. Circumstances quickly change\, people’s stances on different sides of traditional boundaries are deepening\, expectations of results are speeding up. We call the kind of people who take on these challenges systems conveners. \nThe workshop engages participants in a reflection on their work from a systems-convening perspective. This entails understanding the mindset that systems conveners bring to their project as well as the various dimensions of the work of systems convening. \nOutcomes\n\nAn understanding of the systems convening perspective\nA wider range of possibilities for taking a systems convening approach to move initiatives forward\nSpecific examples of how to do this work\n\nStructure of the session\nIn this session we invite you to think through an approach for thinking about and taking action in the more complex environment we find ourselves in. We’ll include a reflection at four levels: \n\nToday. The complex landscape we find ourselves in today\nA new approach. A systems convening perspective (compared with a more traditional approach)\nLanguage for action. A language to frame this systems convening perspective in actionable ways\nDoing the work. The work involved in doing this perspective\n\nThe specific themes we’ll be addressing include: \n\nA landscape perspective\nBoundaries and identities\nPower and agency\nValue creation\nLegitimacy and convening call\n\nThis session will be repeated four times – please register for the date which suits you: \n\n9th February 2023\, 09:30-13:00\n2nd March 2023\, 09:30-13:00\n16th March 2023\, 09:30-13:00\n23rd March 2023\, 09:30-13:00\n\nFacilitator Bios\nEtienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner \nEtienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner are internationally renowned social learning theorists and consultants. Their pioneering work in social learning is influential in such diverse fields as learning theory\, business\, government\, international development\, healthcare\, and education. Their consulting practice specializes in contexts where there are large-scale social learning challenges. They founded the Social Learning Lab\, where they host series of events oriented to theory\, practice\, and leadership. The co-edited volume Learning in landscapes of practice expands the theory beyond single communities. Systems convening sheds light on a crucial form of social-learning leadership. They are preparing a guidebook for communities of practice. They have started a book series called Learning to make a difference and recently published the first volume. It introduces the concept of social learning space as a new foundation for the theory\, and their value-creation framework as a tool for both conceptualizing and cultivating social learning. Read the book here: Systems Convening – A crucial form of leadership for the 21st century (free PDF download). \nPlease note that this is a pan-regional programme\, led by the South West Leadership Academy. By creating the right conditions for continuous improvement and high performance\, systems and organisations can respond to today’s challenges\, deliver better care for patients and give better outcomes for communities. \nFollowing the launch of NHS IMPACT in April 2023\, Improvement is high on the agenda.  NHS IMPACT’s five components form the ‘DNA’ of all evidence-based improvement methods\, these principles underpin a systematic approach to continuous improvement: \n\nBuilding a shared purpose and vision\nInvesting in people and culture\nDeveloping leadership behaviours\nBuilding improvement capability and capacity\nEmbedding improvement into management systems and processes\n\nCoaching for Improvement \nTo support this work\, the leadership academies have developed a Coaching for Improvement programme. This programme has been designed for colleagues working in roles and projects with a focus on improvement. It aims to increase leaders effectiveness through adopting a coaching approach. \nThis programme is a modular series of 3 full day virtual sessions.  You will need to be available to attend the whole day for all 3 sessions. All the sessions will be very interactive\, discursive and participative \nThe programme will explore \n\nUnderstanding the value of coaching in service improvement\nCoaching skills\, tools and techniques – GROW and AI\nGroup dynamics and power dynamics\nindividual responses to change and making change ‘sticky’\nLearning from failure\nPower and political animals in organisations – and how to play with them!\nInfluencing with integrity\n\nThe programme will provide \n\nThe opportunity to work with colleagues from across organisations and regions to share learning\nThe opportunity to gain key skills around the application of coaching approaches to support staff engagement within change initiatives\nIncreased awareness and understanding of the impact of group dynamics within change processes\nIncreased understanding of the challenges within establishing and maintaining change\nIncreased awareness of their personal response and impact (use of self as an agent of change)\n\nDates and times \n\nModule 1      Introduction to Coaching in the context of change  Tuesday 13th February 0930-1630\nModule 2      Exploring change responses    Wednesday 13th March   0930-1630\nModule 3      Self as an instrument of change    Wednesday 10th April 0930-1630\n\nThere are three modules in this programme\, participants must attend all three to complete: \nAll sessions are delivered via Zoom \nCommunity of Practice \nThe 3 module workshops will be complemented by 3 facilitated ‘Community of Practice’ half day sessions which will be open to any participants who have attended the 3 modules and who then go on to practical implementation of change projects/initiatives within their health and care systems. \nThese sessions will run just after the final workshop so that participants have a vehicle for future re-connection with each other\, a facilitated environment that uses the philosophy of enablement and practice of action learning techniques to continue the application of learning and development that has taken place in the programme. \nPlease note the dates for the community of practice in your diary. Dates for these will be opened up to participants who attended all three days of the programme. \nCommunity of Practice 1                  Wednesday 22 May \nCommunity of Practice 2                  Tuesday 25 June \nCommunity of practice  3                  Tuesday 16 July \nWho is this session for: \nThe NHS Leadership Academy provides leadership development for people of all backgrounds and experiences across health and care. \nThis programme is aimed at health and care staff from all professional backgrounds within health and care. \nThis includes staff involved in supporting change initiatives (such as service redesign or organisational change) as a key part of your role\, but not working necessarily specifically in a QI or transformation role. \nThere is no expectation that participants will be qualified coaches\, but they should have experience of managing change in the workplace. \nPlease be aware that attendance at this programme will not provide coaching or project management accreditation or qualification but will equip you with skills and abilities to lead change using a coaching and enabling approach. \nAbout the facilitator \nHeather Wicks \nMA Mgmt of Innovation and Change\, BSc(hons)Health Science\, PGDip Evidence Based Medicine\, FAETC\, DBO \nHeather Wicks is a founding Director of Connect Oxford\, a consultancy specialising in enabling change with individuals\, teams and organisations through coaching\, leadership development and organisational development. \nHeather’s belief is that everyone has the potential to define\, design and achieve their own success and her passion is working with others using a dynamic\, curious and action-orientated style to empower and equip them to do this.  Her approach is firmly grounded in an appreciation and recognition of strengths and what we already have as a foundation for growth\, rather than seeking out and identifying ‘deficiency’ and ‘weakness’. \nHer career is rooted in the NHS and she has worked in\, or with the NHS\, for over 30 years in a wide variety of ways ranging from an allied health professional (clinical eye specialist) to a Director of Strategy and Commissioning and she has gained a rounded and diverse experience of many aspects of providing and commissioning of health and care services. \nCurrently\, Heather works often with the NHS\, care\, local government and wider public sector and is a member of the NHS Leadership Faculty focusing on the design and delivery of experiential leadership development programmes as well as providing executive coaching to many leaders across the NHS\, local government and not for profit sectors. \nHeather has designed and delivered a range of bespoke leadership development initiatives for NHS staff from new line managers to Board development in primary\, acute\, community and mental health organisations as well as commissioning bodies.  She has been on the NHS Leadership Academy Faculty Teams for the Rosalind Franklin\, Mary Seacole and GMTS programmes in recent years. \nShe is an experienced coach and OD practitioner who is accredited in the MBTI and Clarity 4D personality type indicators as well as the NHS 360 Leadership Model and other psychometric tests. \nHer Oxford Masters degree is in the Management of Change and Innovation. \nQuestions about this event? \nOrganiser : Leadership and Lifelong Learning Team \nEmail: london@leadershipacademy.nhs.uk \nThis form is now closed for Applications. \n\nPlease note that we have reached our entry limit and cannot accept anymore bookings. SUMMARY:Virtual Action Learning Set (VALS) Supervision
DESCRIPTION:VALS  Supervision \nOur aim is to build a community of practice who work together to support each other\, continue personal development in ALS facilitation and protect the quality of AL being experienced by health and social care staff. \nAs with coaching\, facilitators work as individuals using their own skills\, experience and presence as the catalyst for others’ learning. Group supervision gives us the opportunity to reflect on our experiences\, learn from others and ask questions to ensure that we are developing the best AL facilitation practice. \nThe supervision sessions will be offered throughout the year and will work with a maximum group of 8 so that there can be full involvement of all. We ask those attending to prepare by reviewing their recent experiences or future opportunities in ALS facilitation and prepare a question that can be discussed with the supervisor and explored with the whole group. It may be around a particular session or a theme that is showing up as a pattern across a series of ALS. \nIt is a confidential\, non-judgemental space where we all learn from the reflective practice about our different experiences. \nYour booking is not confirmed until you have received a confirmation email. Joining instructions will be sent as soon as your booking is confirmed. \nPlatform: Zoom – Joining instructions TBC \nplease note that London Workforce Colleagues will take preference over the spaces available.
