SUMMARY:Neurodiversity - Supporting\, Recruiting & Managing Employees
DESCRIPTION:The London Leadership Academy is pleased to present this workshop in Partnership with Enna. The workshop provides a great introduction to neurodiversity for managers at all levels\, to help them understand how they can better support\, recruit and manage their neurodivergent employees. \nAbout the facilitator \nEnna is an organisation that works closely with Neurodivergent job-seekers\, to promote Neurodiversity and help organisations create an inclusive culture for Neurodiverse staff. \nSection 1: Understanding neurodiversity \nThis section looks at neurodiversity in context. This involves looking at the definition of neurodiversity\, what the neurodiversity movement is and where its come from\, the key statistics to understand how many people are neurodivergent\, and introducing the key types and how they fit together. We also start to look at the language and terminology used in order to facilitate effective conversations surrounding neurodiversity. \n  \nSection 2: Types of neurodiversity \nWe start this section with a truth or false exercise on Mentimeter. Participants can access the exercise on their phones\, tablet or desktop. Using the sliding scales\, we use this to separate the facts from the fiction. \n  \nWe then continue by looking at the key types of neurodiversity including what percentage of the population have each type\, what are the key components that make up each type (for example hyperactive and inattentive ADHD) and their associated strengths and challenges in the workplace from a management perspective. \n  \nWe end by doing a quick dyslexia exercise\, which involves unscrambling common questions in 60 seconds\, to give people an insight into how dyslexic people may read and interpret information. \n  \nSection 3: Neuro-inclusive recruitment \nThis section focuses on recruitment\, where we have a deep dive in how you can make your job descriptions more accessible\, interview neurodivergent candidates and ensure you aren’t creating unnecessary barriers. \n  \nWe follow this on by doing a reasonable adjustments exercise in break out rooms\, whether participants can use their knowledge of reasonable adjustments to apply it to a real life scenario. \n  \nSection 4: Sharing and fostering an inclusive culture \nThis section talks about how managers can create and foster a neurodiversity friendly culture to reduce the stigma associated with neurodiversity and encourage employees to sharing and talk about their neurodiversity. \n  \nSection 5: Supporting and managing a neurodivergent individual \nSo you’ve recruited someone neurodivergent\, but how do you actually manage and support them effectively? This section looks at management strategies and techniques\, including giving feedback\, communicating effectively and how you can understand and work to their strengths. Here we give managers practical resources\, frameworks and tools manages can use to support them. \nWe end this section by doing a longer exercise through Miro\, where we help managers apply what they’ve learnt to their roles and organisation. \n  \nSection 7: Q&A \nWe end the workshop with a Q&A – where we’re happy to answer any questions through the chat box or by unmuting. \nTHIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED \n\nYou can request a place on a waiting list by emailing awladuz.zaman@nhs.net

SUMMARY:No Going Back! Continuing the Conversation event #3
DESCRIPTION:In light of the publication of the No Going Back! report in September 2021\, an initiative where the NHS London Leadership Academy worked in partnership with researchers from the University of West of England\, this online session allows participants the opportunity to both hear what people shared in the course of that project – and to add their own experiences\, reflections and ideas about organisations and leadership in health care at this time. \nThe LLA is now keen to do two things in light of what we see as this\nvitally important work. First\, we are keen to allow others the\nopportunity to engage with the report. There is a sense that it\nrepresents a rich resource for anyone who embraces leadership in\nhealth and social care.\nThere are many textbooks available to support leadership\ndevelopment – but the stories and insights in this document are the\nrichest source of material for people looking to improve their\npresence and practice in the workplace.\nSecond\, the publication of the report was never seen to be the end\nof a discussion – but needed to be recognised as the start of an\nongoing and honest dialogue about contemporary leadership in\nhealth and social care. \nTo that end\, we are offering everyone in London the opportunity to\nspend two hours in our company online to hear the details of the\nNo Going Back! report – but\, even more importantly\, take some\ntime to speak freely and honestly with one another about what\nthey are seeing now and what they want from the workplace going\nforward. \nTo book your space at this event please click on the link below\, you will be redirected to the NHS England events page. \nhttps://www.events.england.nhs.uk/events/no-going-back-continuing-the-conversation-3 \n  \n  \n
