Mentoring Skills Training Day – 3rd December 2024

The NHS London Leadership Academy is excited to offer a series of four standalone virtual Mentoring Skills training days, designed to empower you with the knowledge and tools to excel as a mentor. Each session runs from 09:00 to 16:00, ensuring a full day of immersive learning.

Who Should Attend?

This programme is perfect for:

  • Aspiring mentors who want to make a significant impact.
  • Current mentors seeking to enhance and refine their skills.
  • Individuals interested in joining the NHS London Leadership Academy mentoring hub.

What to Expect

Our interactive and experiential sessions will equip you with the latest mentoring practices and offer valuable opportunities to reflect on and refine your mentoring approach. You will gain or enhance essential mentoring skills, empowering you to mentor with confidence and make a meaningful difference.

Aims & Learning Objectives:

  • Active participation is required, including keeping your camera on throughout the day to earn your certificate of attendance.

Morning Session:

  • Explore various schools of mentoring, understanding their unique characteristics and commonalities.
  • Define the roles, skills, and attitudes of an effective mentor.
  • Learn how to co-create a mentoring contract.
  • Develop partnerships where differentials are redressed to enable the right work to take place.
  • Understand the importance of psychological safety in mentoring relationships.

Afternoon Session:

  • Build key skills and competencies of being a great mentor including
  • Listening skills
  • Questioning skills
  • Moving to action & accountability
  • Work on the reflective practice of being a mentor
  • Explore Ethical practice

Impact of the Mentoring Course

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Confidently establish strong mentoring partnerships.
  • Deliver mentoring services with a solid ethical foundation.
  • Focus effectively on the needs of your mentee.
  • Understand how to seek supervision for your mentoring services.
  • Contribute to a system that values mentors who understand and implement the NHS People Plan.
